Electrical
Blanket
Testing
Stay Safe. Sleep Warm.
Electric blankets can deteriorate through age, storage and everyday use. Damage to heating elements, wiring, controllers and insulation may not always be visible.
MegaTest provides comprehensive electric blanket testing using visual inspection, electrical safety testing and thermal imaging to help identify faults and ensure your blanket is safe for continued use.

Thermal imaging shows the heating pattern – a healthy electric blanket will show an even heating pattern across the blanket.
Is your blanket safe?
Visual inspection can identify damaged leads, connections, plugs and controllers.
VISUAL INSPECTION
Checking the blanket, controller, power lead, connections and general condition for signs of damage or deterioration.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY TESTING
Electrical testing of the blanket and controls to identify potential insulation or electrical safety faults.
THERMAL IMAGING
Thermal inspection of the blanket while operating to identify abnormal hot spots, cold areas or possible damage to the heating elements.
Keep your home, staff and whānau safe. Regular testing helps identify potential faults and ensures your electric blanket remains safe for continued use.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often does Test & Tag need to be completed?
Testing intervals depend on the type of equipment, the environment it is used in and how it is used.
For example, equipment used on construction sites is generally tested more frequently than equipment in a low-risk office environment.
MegaTest can help determine appropriate testing intervals for your workplace.
Is Test & Tag legally required in New Zealand?
New Zealand health and safety legislation requires businesses to manage electrical risks and ensure equipment is safe to use.
Test & Tag is a recognised way of helping manage those risks, particularly where electrical equipment is exposed to damage, wear or demanding environments.
The appropriate approach depends on the workplace and the equipment involved.
Do computers and IT equipment need testing?
Computers, monitors, power supplies, IEC leads, laptop chargers, power boards and similar equipment may form part of a workplace electrical testing programme.
The inspection and testing interval will depend on the equipment, how it is installed and the environment in which it is used.
We take a common-sense approach to office equipment to minimise costs and disruption for our clients.
Can you test construction site equipment?
Yes. MegaTest provides testing for portable electrical equipment, extension leads, RCDs and other applicable equipment used on construction and demolition sites.
Testing is carried out with reference to the applicable requirements for construction environments, including AS/NZS 3012.
What happens if an appliance fails?
Any equipment that fails inspection or testing is clearly identified and should be removed from service until it has been repaired, replaced or otherwise made safe.
The failed item and test result are also recorded in the site reporting so there is a clear record of the outcome.
Do you travel outside Christchurch?
Yes. MegaTest is based in Christchurch and services clients throughout Canterbury and the South Island, with wider New Zealand work available for suitable projects.
